Honest answers about what to expect, who these therapies suit, and how to make the most of your session.
You don't need to choose in advance. Every new client begins with a 90-minute initial consultation that includes a thorough health-history conversation and your first treatment. Together we look at what's bringing you in, your medical history, and what your nervous system seems to be asking for, and we build the session around that. Many clients end up with a blended approach.
For Bowen and Reiki, loose, comfortable clothing is ideal, as these sessions are done fully clothed. For reflexology you'll only need to remove footwear and roll trousers slightly above the ankle.
Have a light meal one to two hours beforehand and arrive well-hydrated. Avoid heavy caffeine in the hour before, and where possible give yourself an unhurried half-hour after the session rather than rushing back into something demanding.
Yes. Please complete the new-client intake form at least 24 hours before your first session. It's confidential, takes about ten minutes, and lets us spend more of your appointment time on the work itself.
Most clients describe it as both grounding and deeply restful, a stillness the body rarely gets to experience. Reflexology involves firm but comfortable pressure on the feet, the hands, the face or the ears. Bowen feels like a series of light, precise rolls with long pauses in between. Reiki is largely still. It's normal to drift in and out of sleep.
No. Pressure is always adjusted to your comfort — say so at any time. Some reflex points may feel briefly tender, which can correspond to areas of imbalance, but the work should never be painful.
Most people feel relaxed, a little sleepy and calmer. Occasionally someone feels tired or slightly achy for a day or so afterwards. Drink plenty of water, give yourself permission to rest, and let me know if anything concerns you.
It depends on you and what you're working with. Some people come occasionally for rest; others prefer a few sessions closer together at first. We'll talk it through after your first visit, and you're free to pause or stop at any time.
Yes. There is a dedicated Menopause Reflexology session that works the feet, the hands and the face in one treatment, focusing on reflex points associated with the endocrine and nervous systems. It is designed to support comfort and wellbeing through this transition, and if you are using HRT or working with a doctor, it complements that care rather than replacing it.
Bowen works through small, precise moves over muscles, tendons and fascia, followed by pauses. For a frozen shoulder, the upper back and neck procedures are done first, and these lay the foundation for a dedicated shoulder procedure. For lower back pain, moves are made across the back and pelvis. The pauses give the nervous system time to respond, which can help muscles that have been guarding or bracing to let go. Many people find this gentle approach easier to tolerate than deeper work when an area is already sore. How each body responds is individual. Bowen can be done on its own, and it also sits comfortably alongside care from your doctor or physiotherapist.
Yes, from the second trimester onwards. Pregnancy often brings disrupted sleep, stress, and swollen feet and ankles, and this is where reflexology can offer real support. It can stimulate circulation and help down-regulate the autonomic nervous system, inviting the body into rest, and studies with pregnant women have found that reflexology can reduce anxiety and pain. I do not treat in the first trimester unless under specialist referral. Please share your pregnancy details on the intake form, and let your midwife or doctor know you're having reflexology.
Often, yes. These are gentle, non-invasive therapies that work alongside medical care. There are some specific contraindications (acute DVT, certain cancer treatments, recent surgery, uncontrolled cardiovascular events) where timing or treatment may need adjusting. Please complete the intake form fully and, if in doubt, send a note ahead of booking.
Yes. Pressure and pacing are always adjusted to the person. Children are welcome with a parent or guardian present, and older clients are very welcome too, with sessions paced gently to suit.
Visit the booking page to choose a time, or send a message if you'd prefer to talk first. New clients should complete the intake form before their first appointment.
Twenty-four hours' notice is appreciated. Late cancellations and no-shows may be charged at 50% of the session fee. That said, life happens, and exceptions are made with kindness when something genuinely unavoidable comes up.
I don't offer treatment packages. As a wellness practice working within a clinical scope rather than a spa model, sessions are recommended individually based on what your body needs at the time, not sold in bundles. Gift vouchers are available, however, and make a considered gift for someone you'd like to support. Send a note via the contact page to arrange one.
If you are insured with a scheme that covers therapeutic reflexology under AHPCSA registration, an itemised invoice can be issued for you to submit. Please confirm your scheme's policy directly, as coverage varies.
